Backpack Ministry
In the spring of 2010, ladies from our church heard a testimony at a mother/daughter camp about how one little boy made a difference. This boy recognized a hungry friend who sat next to him at school. He began to pack extra snacks for school. When asked by his mother why he was bringing the extra snacks to school he told her: “My friend is hungry”. This began their backpack ministry and, through this ministry, lives have been changed. We were moved and decided we wanted to make a difference too. No child should be hungry and thus began our ministry.
Our backpack ministry is an outreach program to provide food to disadvantaged elementary aged children who might otherwise go hungry on the weekends. At this time, our church is making plans to help 15 children at Colonial Elementary School in Botetourt County, Virginia.
We are asking for a donation or be able to buy the items listed below at cost so that we can provide a backpack with 10 food items each weekend for the students to take home during the school year. This would be for 33 weeks. We really want to make a difference in the lives of these children and with your help we can make this possible.
Below is a list of food items that we are always in need of. Or, you can make a monetary donation to Villa Heights Baptist Church, just write "Backpack Ministry" on the memo line of your check and you can rest assured your money will be used for nothing but food items for this minsitry.
